Consistency is what makes you a good team – Tonks ahead of Belper Town clash

Stafford Rangers midfielder Tom Tonks says consistency in football is what makes a good team, following Rangers’ 3-0 home success against Nantwich Town on Boxing Day.

The victory was courtesy of two goals from striker Kaiman Anderson and a header from centre back James O’Neill. The result took Matthew Hill’s side to ninth in the Northern Premier League Premier Division and Tonks is looking to build on that success, where Stafford got over 1000 fans through the gate.

Tonks said “It’s always good to win. It’s even better when you get the number of fans we managed to get through the turnstiles and put on a good performance and more importantly a comfortable score line.”

Stafford’s season has been up and down, often a good performance has been followed by a below-par one and Tonks thinks they need to be more consistent.

“This season has been a bit of a rollercoaster. We have shown at times that we can be very good, then seven days later we can be very poor. We are searching for back-to-back wins since August and consistency in football is what makes you a good team” Tonks added.

Away clash at Belper

Stafford now travel to Belper Town on Monday 2nd January, where they may be looking to get revenge, having lost 2-1 at home to Belper earlier in the season.

“We are expecting a tough game, they already have one over us this season where we put in a poor performance so we have a little bit of revenge on our minds.

“In every game we expect three points and we always set up to win every game regardless of the opponent” Tonks said.

A win could take Rangers into the playoff places and some teams above them have also played one or two more games, so they will be hoping a first back-to-back victory since August will take them into promotion contention.
