Stafford Cricket Club’s latest recruit Josh McCallum, from Australia, says he couldn’t be more excited to get going in the UK.
The 21-year-old joins up with the club when he flies over from Australia in April, a couple of weeks before the 2023 season gets underway.
McCallum says he’s always wanted to come over to the UK to play cricket. “I couldn’t be more excited. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do but covid over the last few seasons have delayed it for me. I know players who have played in the UK and loved it, as well as players who didn’t go and no longer have the chance to regret it massively” he said.
Stafford CC’s 1st XI were relegated to the North Staffs and South Cheshire League Division Three in the 2022 season and have added McCallum, a talented all-rounder to their ranks for the promotion push back to Division Two.
What type of player are they getting?
“I’m a top/middle order batsman who isn’t a slogger. I like to build my innings and play the best game I can. I also bowl leg spin, working on consistency and changing pace so I can adapt to different challenges that one day cricket brings” McCallum added.
A traditional part of cricket is the social side of it, which Stafford has an abundance of. McCallum says he is looking forward to meeting the people at the club and building friendships over the summer.
“I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and building relationships with them. I’m really excited for the cricket side and the opportunity to show off my skills the best way possible and use my knowledge to better my team however I can.
“I’m also looking forward to playing some golf and getting some midweek travelling in!”
Another summer of cricket gets underway in April and McCallum and his new club will be looking to mount a promotion push and make it a summer to remember.
